About me

Hi there, welcome to my blog!

My name is Fernanda and I am a 20 year old girl from Querétaro, México. I love my home, and I am very proud to be Mexican.

A few years ago, I received information about an organization called UWCMexico, which is part of the United World Colleges. Every year, this National Committee along with about 120 others in different countries all around the world, sends students aged 15 to 17 to study an International Baccalaureate in one of their 14 schools. It had always been my dream to study abroad, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so.

There was only one downside to this story. The IB takes two years to complete, and it is the equivalent to the American/Mexican High School System, of which I was already part of in my country. In fact, I was a few months away from graduating High School (I graduated in May, 2014), which meant that I would have to "repeat" high school and take two extra years to get to college.

By the time I heard from them, I was already applying to several Universities in the United States, for example University of Wisconsin-Madison & Georgetown University, for a major in Classical Studies. However, me being me, I decided to put that on hold and focus entirely on winning one of the 17 scholarships UWCMexico was offering.

500+ people started the process with me, and only 17 of us got a scholarship. Me, along with another friend, got the opportunity to study in the Mahindra United World College of India, otherwise known as MUWCI. So yes, I graduated from one of the most prestigious Mexican high schools. And then, I moved to the farthest possible country from mine to do the IB all over again.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I love writing it. You may read this blog in Spanish, clicking here. And also, my friend Diego (who is going to UWCCR) has his own blog in Spanish, and you can read it here, or if you prefer to read a different perspective on India, my Colombian friend, Adolfo has a blog you can access here.

After roughly three months of living in India, I decided to come back to Mexico because my experience at school was neither what I had expected nor what I had wanted (you can read more about that here). For about five months, I went back to living with my parents in Mexico, and I wrote about the places and the adventures that make  my city so special.

During April of 2015, I moved to Montréal, Canada to practice my French and stayed there until July of 2015. On the blog you can find the stories of my adventures in India, Mexico, Canada (and even read a few of my adventures in Paris).

In August of 2015, after spending an awesome summer in Mexico, I headed to the United States to study Art History & Religious Studies with an emphasis on Islamic Art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I have been living for about a year. Surprisingly, this is the longest I have stayed anywhere since I moved to Mulshi Valley in 2014!

I know I have been M.I.A from the blog for a long time, but soon enough you will get to read all about my adventures and misfortunes in College --which has been the hardest place to adapt to so far.

Thanks for reading!
